Back from the States! In between training my replacement and all the side meetings, I had some time to:

Catch up with friends at a pub crawl (excellent crowd-wrangling by Kodiak)

Tame The Mane.

Enjoy American-sized snacks.

Spend time with old friends

. . . and their new little ones.

Meet my family's new pets.

See how big my nephews have grown.

Go to my varsity basketballer baby sister's graduation!

And show my sisters that we're really not so different (shade-wise) now that we all live in sunny places.

Taking a short break from Uganda - I had to go to NY for a business trip. Be back at the end of June!

Everything stops here when it rains. Tonight, my 35-45 min ride home took an hour and a half. Witness the rivers of mud that follow rainy season downpours.

I'm also enjoying the many sayings (whose meaning usually escapes me) painted on the back of matatus. Here's the first one in a while that I got.

Kampala night life

Ah yes, you can find Rock 'n Bowl just about anywhere. I came in second, which probably says more about my companions (not being American) than about me having any skill. Man, I really miss The Approach!

I went to the Uganda-Nigeria game on Saturday. The crowd wsa screaming right from the beginning, and I really regreted not having earplugs. First, Nigeria scored a goal.

That's the tiny, tiny pro-Nigeria section cheering. Then, Uganda got a penalty shot and scored. I thought my ears were going to bleed from the crowd's screams. Uganda won the match 1-2, and people went nuts!

Yes, that's a road flare burning in the stands.

A train (brought in from Kenya, I hear?) to take people from the stadium back to town.

But we decided to walk with the crowd....
